Drawing through the Making Centre: Project 2 Transparent Illusions

I started this assignment by first observing the scenery outside of my bedroom’s window. Since I live in a 40 stories building, I saw the same tops of buildings and the blue sky every single day. I just wondered what stories could happen outside of my windows. Will there be UFOs, spaceship, astronaut, whales floating at the top of the city? Therefore, I decided to draw something related to the themes of space and fairytale. I brainstormed different series of designs on my sketchbook and made sure the five designs in each series could be integrated into their own scene.

After testing the prototype out on acetates, I realized that the ones with space had a better effect. Therefore, I utilized a drawing tablet to add more details based on my drafts. They were first drawn in Photoshop and then imported into Illustrator. I drew the cutting line very close to the images so the edge would not blur the background to affect the overall effect. They were replicated into different sizes to make sure that I could choose which ones worked the best.

During the process of taking the final pictures, I had a hard time to find the right exposure. Overall, I was satisfied with how they turn out. The difference in line weights and shades made them stand out of the background. They also reflected my illustrative style and what my daydreams looked like.
