Tool Kit Proposal: The Foster Care System

SUSTAINABLE TOOL KIT

PROPOSAL: Children In The Foster Care System

PURPOSE:

The tool kits purpose is to support and nurture the child’s mentality, and induce comfort. The three components in the tool kits each have a role, their purposes are categorized, firstly, visualizing comfort: will entail hand on activities, such as a coloring book, cards and  transformational therapy toy. Secondly, upholding comfort: encompasses a notebook to write their thoughts and emotions along with a blanket. Lastly, informing comfort: will be an advisory handbook for parents. Collectively, the comfort will be called “Fostering Comfort,” these tools will each contribute as a valuable therapeutic session for the foster child. As the tools central audience is foster children, I think it is essential that the kit entails a guide tailored for foster parents to both assist themselves and the children in their care.

Fostering: encourage or promote the development of (something, typically something regarded as good).

Comfort: the state of physical [and mental] ease and freedom from pain or constraint. ease the grief or distress of; console

REASON: I have been in the foster care system for a very short period of time, and I have encountered several people in my life who have been in the system for a few years or more. I was lucky to be adopted by my aunt and uncle, though others remained. Their experience motivated me to create this tool kit, their stories impacted me emotionally. It is true that all a child needs for nurturement as my friend who has been a part of the system since he was four years of age said, is family, though my idea is to provide something that comes in some form of nurturement for the child where that is easily accessible to seek themselves .
