10 second, 30 second, 1 minute

For my 10 second, 30 second, and 1 minute video clips, I decided to highlight the NYC subway system around the Yankee stadium station in the Bronx. The station is the most trafficked ones in the borough not only because of the stadium, but because of its transfer to the B and D trains (these are the only two letter trains that run through the borough), and the court right up on 161. As a result, the station constantly has people coming in and out, as in where stations such as 138th (two stops before 161) rarely has people in the station at all. It’s uncommon to see the station without people, and where as in some stations either only have people coming in, or out, 161 has traffic both ways. Despite this, the station is a rather boring one, heavily reliant on the scenery of the stadium itself, rather than decorating it with art like its neighboring stations. All stations forward from 161 have individual stained glass pieces, whilst 161 just has yankee stadium propaganda all over. I used my videos to perpetuate a different vibe in the station, two which are exuberant, and one which is intended to express the vibe of the stadium during the baseball season.

For my 10 second video, I wanted to make the environment feel suspenseful. I used the strategic placement of shots in unison to the music in order to create an eerie atmosphere to a generally uneventful place. I wanted to emphasize how mood is relative and can easily be shifted by music. Though nothing eventful is occurring, music definitely changes the entirety of the piece.

In the 30 second video, I decided to use fun music again to kind of feel playful at the train station. Though the visuals are monotonous, the joyous music makes the environment feel so much more lively even though its just some trains passing by.

For my 1 minute video I wanted to replicate the vibe of the station on a baseball day. The people swarming, and theres an increased influx of trains. I decided to edit audio of people chattering as well as the sounds of the park which can be heard loud an clear on a game day. It’s on those days in which the 161 station feels most alive and booming.
