Memory Map

Memory Map Reflection

Project Background:

Our goal for this project was to create a map using all four of our memories and our paths to Parsons.  Though we come from different backgrounds, our similarities in interests, obstacles, and accomplishments link our paths together, as we all ultimately end up at Parsons.  Some constraints included finding times that were suitable for all members to meet up.  There were also some difficulties in coming up with an idea we were all on board with.  We had two weeks to finish this project.

Role:

My role in this project was mainly to draw out the illustrations for the icons and starting point locations.  Once we collaborated on the plan and pathways, Danni created a rough sketch, I finalized the icon drawings (school, paint palette, stop sign, earth, brain, diploma) in pencil, and drew out my starting point location as well as the Parsons final destination.  Danni worked on the icons with me, and she drew out the hurdles, and the icons associated with communication design.  Callista and Niharika contributed a little to the illustration of the icons as well.  For the starting point locations, Callista gave me a rough sketch for me to copy onto the final, and Danni and Niharika drew out their own.  We met up a few times to outline the images in pen and watercolor them in together.

Process:

Process of brainstorming our similarities in interests, accomplishments, obstacles, and sketching out and mapping our paths and icons.

Process of burning the edges of the paper, sketching our final designs, and painting.

Shift Reflection:

Initially, it was difficult producing an idea that everyone could agree and develop on.  However, the more we talked and wrote things out, it became easier to visualize a direction we could head towards.  I realized the key to collaboration was getting everyone on the same page, with the same idea of an end product, and the only way to do this was through communication and listening.  Though it could get stressful and frustrating at times because of the conflicting ideas, as we learned to listen through, my ideas were developed further by the contributions of my group members.  Through this, we were able to create a product we were all proud of.

Things I Would’ve Done Differently:

I think if I had more time with my group members, I would have liked to make the illustrations of the icons cleaner and I would’ve wanted to make the map look more “aged” since we were going for the feel of a treasure map.
