Going to the Porcelanosa construction site was informative in terms of tectonics and the logistics that go in to actually having a site be constructed. It was really interesting to see the floor plans in the maintenance room and then see the actual structure be constructed and coming into fruition. I was also interested to see how the team collaboration aspect, in regards to the developers, engineers, construction workers, and city planers as the architect is usually regarded as the iconic figure who takes everything into account on his own. Seeing the building in bare bones also made me think about the many things that must go into consideration when designing something, such as how thick the walls should be for thermal isolation and circuitry and plumbing. I was also interested to see the new techniques used by architects, such as the hosed concrete which makes walls more structurally sound and how minor differences have impactful effects, such as the type of foam used on the walls, the architect said purple foam was the most common because of how resistant to mold it is. Attending this site visit really put into perspective how important tectonics and meticulous planning and perpetration is.
