Space/Materiality: Project #1: Personal symbol

Given the task to create our own personal symbol using linear materials, I created a lily, which is a flower similar to my name.

We were first given the task to become familiarized with working with linear materials such as strands of cardboard, yarn, and metal wire.

In order to brainstorm about the project, I started thinking and writing about how I identify myself and how the community saw me.

After this brainstorming session, I realized that I wanted to focus on creating a label or a symbol that could also be used in my future for my fashion designs because how I identify myself is an art student who is pursuing fashion design. I also thought this would be understandable because the community saw me as a designer interested in fashion.

I created a mood-board next to visually showcase what I was interested in or was aesthetically appealed to.

Next, I made several thumbnails about possible ideas. I moved on from creating a repeating symbol out of my initials to creating a 3D object like a lily out of different linear materials.

These are my experiments with how I would shape my lilies, out of foil and paper.

These are some of my earlier experimentations with wire and lilies.
