Rectilinear Planar Construction

The idea for this rectilinear construction came to me over night. I thought it would be cool to make a rectangular tower out of cardboard and have masses coming out of the sides of it. Joining the rectangle I used U cut methods to then insert triangles and close it off. In order to attach more straight edges to the sides of the building I used L cuts, U cuts, and O cuts. I have over 35 cuts in the piece combined.

Once I was done building the form out of cardboard I wanted to paint the structure. I did this by using oil paint. I was going to do a monochromatic style and use different shades of the same color- but I quickly found out that oil paint is not my friend. So, I took paper I had lying around the house and went for a more retro look. Each side of the cardboard is covered with two different sheets of paper to create depth. All of the flaws that are seen on the structure are due to the oil paint that has still not dried- and went through the paper on some- and smudged others- despite how careful I was.

As a whole, I think my project is successful in showing depth by using very vibrant colors- I am also a fan of the structure I created. It was fun working like a maximalist instead of minimally for once.
