Learning Portfolio Reflection

While starting my journey for the next four years and what I deemed to be one of the most challenging times of my life I was happy in the  fact that I was able to take a drawing imaging class. Growing up primarily working with sculpture I was unsure of what to expect when coming to this school. I wasn’t comfortable in my drawing skills nor did I feel I was anywhere near the proficiency I wanted to be in. But after a semester of hard work and dedication I feel my confidence is grown in the subject

When starting the class it wasn’t as apparent to me in the beginning but soon I realize the overarching theme that we covered throughout the year. There’re so much to do and so little time because of this I felt myself bombarded  it with topics and themes I wanted to cover. Since the identity collage was based on oneself I decided to focus on myself and my own personal growth. I tried to stay to one narrative but oftentimes find myself straying away. When I first looked into the project I had an overall motif of things that frustrated me in the world and that I later broke that down into three subcategories. The first was idolatry I’m putting oneself above everyone else I felt like this was toxic and was not a suitable way to live life. After that I dealt with concepts of momentum Mori which is ideas of dealing with one’s own mortality and coming to terms with that lastly I looked at ideas for pain and suffering in the world. I found a creative way to demonstrate that throughout the three pieces that I bought to class and that’s what I chose as my theme and as a deviated throughout the semester it’s still followed that personal narrative that surrounds my personal believes in my overall growth as a person And as a student throughout my time at Parsons I have always felt that if you find a reasonToConnect to your work in a deeper levelIt creates more of a symbolic bondAnd I’ve always found myself working much harder my assignmentsWhen I actually made it about something that I was passionate about.Below are my three firstProjects that I did for classAnd it served as a catalystFor my future assignmentsIt was my first ever critique At the new school.

Later in the semester we started to new figure drawings. As I stated earlier in the reflection  I’ve never had formal training in drawing and I never Felt as if my skills for anything to compare to what I needed to be as a student in the school. Because of that my professor was always very generous and working with me in the skill and rate I was at. I think for me learning the basics how to start an observer shape really it Was a strong beginning and because of that over the next 15 weeks I was able to hold and improve my skill. Professor Sarah show me how to see shapes in an object and also she noticed I was drawing to hard when I initially was trying to get the general form of the model after working with me for a couple months I started to feel more confident and how to understand how the body naturally sits and rest understanding the contrapposto position and how weight naturally leads to one side help me better understand how to compose a model overall even though I’m not a master yet Learning the fundamentals of how to draw observation greatly improve my confidence and skill overtime below you can see some of progression of earlier works and then how I progressed over the semester

When working in my class my most significant creative challenge in the class was the integration of digital artwork into the curriculum I have never used computer in my life for art so to have to create art from nothing was extremely challenging luckily enough we were able to watch tutorials on the basics and with that information I was able to get by understanding how to create my project. I took a slow and tried my best to work on how I can make this interesting in visual way overall I’m pretty happy with how my final piece came I’m glad that I got to experience in the first place. It was a good first step into how modeling should be on the computer.below you can see a lot of my ideas and trials come to life.

Furthermore when reflecting on that process I wasn’t just asked to create a digital image I had analog references for inspiration this didn’t throw me into the fire that bad as I had objects and references I could rely on. There’re a lot of benefits that came for it as it was my first time being introduced to the illustrator programs I’ve never used Photoshop before so being able to integrate my work from analog-to-digital in a safe environment was very enjoyable for me I’ve applied what I learned from this class I was able to work comfortably in projects of the same nature in other classes. For me it was almost like learning a new language and at times extremely frustrating but I had a lot of references and photos as you can see above overall it was a very pleasing experience for me in the end and looking back into it I am proud of what I accomplished

While doing the reflections in class I felt as if with That is what was important to me was learning the fundamental skills and also learning how to develop my ideas in more depth. Overall as a product designer my analog drawings in digital renderings have to be able to show and speak for themselves this class we really worked on the fundamentals of how to draw and how to do 2-D artwork this really promoted me and push me to do the best  work I could. This class will forever be important to me as I will always need the to draw and the concepts behind that in my future work that is why I feel like drying imaging was one of my most important fundamental classes I took for my foundation year of college. I can’t see myself getting through the next three years without the knowledge that I gained from this class and I’m not just saying that to kiss ass but I think overall it was very beneficial if I look back to some of my work in the beginning of the semester I really see personal growth as someone stated during one of my final critiques I see a lot of personal growth in Jon Jons work and it really seems like a coming of age story. A lot of the ideas and themes I spent five months developing because of that I really was able to nurture my creativity in a safe  and supportive environment. I learned how to manage my time and push my ideas the next level often times from the second the assignment was created I had ideas of what I wanted to do but my professor always push me to try to develop my ideas as thoroughly as I could regardless or not if I followed her advice I always found it very helpful to understand that my ideas are not always the best and sometimes I need more explaining or a clearer narrative overall I feel as if my ability to complete work has improved and the technical skills behind it has also improved greatly I’m looking forward to see how I’ll uses new information in my coming classes.

here are some of the things I learned being used in other classes
