What is Avatar?

“Avatar” means a representation of a being, group, or even a world.

Just like in my favorite cartoon show growing up, “Avatar: The Last Airbender”, the Avatar is a uniting figure of the four nations: Water, Earth, Air, and Fire. Having a connection to the spirit world and able to use all four elements, he/she is able to settle conflicts between nations and worlds. This has definitely had an influence in my understanding of the word “avatar”, being the first thing in my mind to pop up when I hear it.

Personally, I hope that one day I can be as multi-faceted as this Avatar. In art, I find that it is important in being well-versed in all different forms, rather than limiting yourself. Some might call it indecisiveness, but there’s something inside me that yearns to learn more than one focus, and somehow find a career in which I am not confined to doing the same thing everyday.
