The Visual Representation of Time by Marilyn Mitchell

In Marilyn Mitchell’s The Visual Representation of Time, she discusses the different ways the passing of time is shown in graphs and visuals used in papers, research, articles, etc. The limitations to designing a timeline is the two-dimensionalness and size of the paper. She continues on to explain how it is important to make the information in these graphics easy to read for audiences.

Not only is depicting time clearly important, but expressing the mood in your graphic is essential too. A well-designed timeline is able to communicate the events and even events that have yet to happen.
