Measurement and design with drawing
1/4inch wood board I used for my project
Notching the pieces together(on top)
Final work (critique in class)
This is a bird cage I made. I got the inspiration from a story I’ve been told when I was a kid. A beautiful bird that lives in a cage and belongs to a rich. Whether what the rich gives to her, she’s always sad and stop singing. Finally she died because she want freedom so much. So I design a bird cage.
The bird cage includes six brace that notching both on the top and the bottom, and a wood board also notch in the middle of the bottom part. I used compass and ruler to measure the curve and length of the braces, so they will be in same size and ready to notch. The nothching is hard, I have to cut it several times to make sure that it won’t be loose. Finally, I painted with white and golden paints, to represent that it is a well decorated bird cage.
The bird cage is not really a cage. It is open on any side, however it is closed for the bird. The board in the middle represent the environment that the bird lives in: it is well decorated, with food and water, with love and comfort. How could a bird like this survive from outside? So it is herself locked her in the cage, in the “Golden sky ” she has in that cage.
