Bridge 2

fullsizerender-11For this project I wanted to depict the concept of Modern Royalty in America. For this piece I used scanned images from several different books that I printed out, glue, and tabloid magazine pictures. In the background I created a collage of “Dirty America” which is a representation of what real America is. For this part I put together images of working middle-class people, homeless people’s “homes”, trash, supermarkets, and abandon areas. This all shows what real America is like and how it is different from what people believe America is. In the foreground, I cut out celebrities heads and placed them onto royal bodies and scenes. This depiction is representing how American culture treats celebrities like royalty and how this creates an image of what America is like. I chose to have the celebrities in the foreground to show a hierarchic theme, with the middle-class in the background, representing peasants basically. In America, there is this modern royalty that we create and we build up our celebrities into these immortal gods. I really hoped for this piece to show the contrast of what real America is and the facade that American culture can create.
