Observation: Water Lab

Being an experiment, the set up of the room was extremely organized and the instructions were very precise. We had four petri dishes  with the different foods for the bacteria. we all wore gloves in order to prevent contamination, and lab coats, I’m guessing to protect our regular clothing from possible spillage. We were divided into four different groups, in order to have multiple results to compare. The experiment required us to distribute the different waters presented to us into the petri dishes and mix them top with beads to help us see the effects of the bacteria visually. We shook the petri dishes around after putting the beads inside in order to spread the bacteria around.

When we went to revisit the lab, the results were colorful. The bacteria infected petri dishes were, blue, pink, and purple in color. The clean tests were clear. In some cases the amount of bacteria in the petri dishes were more and we could tell this by looking at how dense the colors appeared.

The water lab experience was, in an educational sense, informative. In my opinion, the most insightful thing about the experiment was how effective visual results/evidence could be in determining credible evidence. This was interesting to find out because I had always, before this, associated visuals to art rather than science, and to see visual information being applied to something outside the field of art is not only satisfying but encouraging to know artists could play a critical role in the discovery of so much.
