IS2 Journal Entry Week 4 – Archive

An archive is a good way to save documents and files of certain things and people. It usually memorates artists and people from the past with the collection of their work during their lifetime. Last year, from my Integrative Studio 1 class, I had an assignment to research an artist and his artworks to create a new artwork that memorates the artist. I picked Nam June Paik who is a Korean American artist who mainly uses videos in his art. From the research of his life, I found his archive that involved the history of his life and his artworks. It was very interesting to look at all the artworks and related sketches of him. An archive is nice in terms of keeping the work of an artist itself. What I mean by it is that we can look at the work that is physically done by the artist, not recreated or redone by other artists or people.
