Starting from writing down this list of keywords, I also started to think which one of these keywords can best represent my artworks so far. I thought the majority of my artworks are incorporating myself. My personality, thoughts, values, experiences are some examples that were subjected to my artworks. Emotion is another keyword that takes an important part in my artworks as well. For this assignment, I wanted to show how emotion has the influence to form my identity and personality as a young child. I experienced many confusions and despairs from feeling diverse emotion as I went through many events in my life. There were some times that I felt something that I can’t describe in words. It is something that I can only feel and think. However, I wanted to make imagery of this experience into this mapping assignment. Thus, I used the shape of the fingerprint to represent myself and used a drawing type of image to convey the confusion of emotion I felt during my life so far. For the background, I used a water texture image in order to deliver the feeling of peace but lost. When I experienced complex emotion, I felt very frustrated and stressed but at the same time, I learned how to get it through and overcome. Moreover, as I thought the images themselves were too weak in visual, I added a text, “control yourself” in order to hint the topic that I’m trying to converse with the viewers. However, I wanted the overall map to be abstract because the feelings I experienced and how they influenced myself as a person and an artist are very vague and hard to describe literally. From various periods of time in my life so far, I experienced diverse emotion from various events happened to me and my surroundings, which made me find a way to control myself. Now, I think I found some sort of way to control my emotion, but it doesn’t work sometimes. I think I’m in the process of learning. I’m looking forward to making more artworks related to this topic of learning how to control myself and emotion and how different emotion and related events influence me as a growing artist. Lastly, I hope the viewers also feel, think, and learn the same way I do.
