Bridge Assignment #1

System 1: Retail

I am interested in retail because I have always loved products and merchandise. The older I have gotten the more interested I have became. In my senior year of high school we were required to have an internship at the end of the year and I chose to have mine at a store called Simply J boutique. Before my experience at Simply J I was always on the other side as the consumer, but this allowed me to see the in’s and out’s of the process and learn everything that goes behind selling merchandise. I worked closely with the owner who showed me how to order the clothes, how chose which items to buy from vendors, and other skills to work with the customers. My experience was at a Brick and Mortar, I would like to explore both Brick and Mortar and E-commerce companies. As an aspiring entrepreneur of creating my own products, I am very interested in learning more on the system of retail.

System 2: Workforce

Wether you are self-employed or work for a company or corporation, the workforce is in my opinion one of the most prominent systems. Without jobs your ability to do what you want increases significantly and you restrictions. People with more money than others have more preferences because they are able to. There is also the topic of the lack of being in the workforce. Within this system there is many different areas that create one larger unit. I am interested in this because after I graduate I am going to, hopefully, be in the workforce full time and start my career. Being educated on this system will help me moving forward and is also something that generally interests me, specifically how millennials are now affecting the labor force.

System 3: Gender Inequality

Gender inequality is a system I have always been interested in because every since I was a little kid I could tell that boys and girls are not treated the same. It was always “strong boys” that could help move the tables in elementary school. I find it interesting that you’re sometimes raised in a community that views that as normal. The older I got the more aware I became and learned more ways that women and men are not treated equally such as our pay, abilities, personalities, and more. I would love to explore other ways in which we experience inequality today.
