I have always thought of fashion as a way of adornment; fashion is an extension of one’s true self through color, texture, and silhouette. After taking this class I have come to understand that fashion is all these things, but fashion is also political, trendy, and can create a sense of uniformity that impacts our society at its core. Fashion not only defines an era a part of the time but explains the history of the individual illustrating growth change and the challenges the individual takes; it is not just as simple as self-expression. Fashion is a story that illustrates who we are and who we will become. It is filled with function and the frivolous expanding to every aspect of our lives. Fashion does not only apply to self, but to a whole subculture that everyone is a part of even though they are not aware of. Fashion is never an island, but a response to what has had, and will happen.
