When I first visited this exhibit I was dazzled pieces of disco balls, collage, and film. I walked through the museum on a Saturday absorbing as much as I could from ideas of gender roles to the beauty in alliance and standing up for injustice. When leaving I was stuck by this piece, one that I didn’t think much of. I quickly took a picture of it before heading out on an errand for my boss. This piece is the cross section between the themes of this show. Not only does it illustrate the anguish that one feels when power over themselves is taken away, but the want and need for acceptance. A lot of people think they know what they want, or that they belong, but they don’t. Instead most of us go through life ignoring our thoughts of loneliness and self hatred that is not caused by us, but by social standards. Unlike the collages, paintings, films, and visual performances, this work you cannot interpret. It is clear cut and sharp leaving the audience stunned, but is relatable in the realest way possible.
