monument FINAL

Proposal -2-1c95prj

The Gay Liberation Monument located in Christopher Park, has been over looked and forgotten due to its lack of color and support by the LGBTQIA + Community. The statues originally created by George Segal do not represent the struggle and empowerment of the Gay Liberation Movement. I’ve created an addition to the monument called the LGBTQIA+ PAVE THE WAY MONUMENT in which it erects a statue of  a leader from the LGBTQIA + community every year which will be selected by the community of New York. The First two statues are Marsha P Johnson and Sylvia Rivera due to their courage during Stonewall and their support of their community. All statues will be cast in bronze and painted in symbols that represent the leader, and also feature a color drip shadow which illustrates the timeline of the LGBTQIA+ community and how past leaders have helped pave the way for new leaders and change.
