TEN BILLION

The movie “Ten Billion” is an eye-opening movie because it makes us realize that our actions are changing the earth in a rapid and threatening way. Here, Stephen Emmott mentions that we are the drivers of every global problem we face. The main problem discussed is that as the human population grows, problems also arise. It all started with the agricultural revolution which made food production possible. Then with the industrial revolution and green revolution which enables people to produce a large amount of food supply at a cheaper price. All this resulted in the sudden increase in the human population in which by 2050, the estimated population would be 10 billion. With the increase of population, comes climate changes, water problem,s, atmosphere problems, basically all the problems that would destroy the Earth not a long time from now. He then mentions that we need to mitigate this problem immediately if we want to continue existing in the near future.
Dickson mentions a solution to the problem in this movie, which is by having vertical farms and by replacing the existing buildings in cities with buildings that can process carbon, generate energy, harvest rainwater, produce food, and store and share excess energy, water, and food. He proposes that we use nature as a standard for design because nature works in an incredible way that designers can learn from.
