project 4: People watching sketchbook spread

The pictures that I took an had taken, are from a night on a rooftop with friends in Flatiron New York. We had all gotten back from The Museum of Sex and had a nice late night outside, with music, and a nice view. All of us dressed in edgy night-out fashion, with striking colors and dark undertones. For the Parallel universe, I used photoshop to alter the images and crop out and mix and match the individuals together in a setting. I used color correction, a bit of distortion and imaginative illustrations in the background, I wanted the picture to be bold, but simple and not to overpowering.
My mission was to dictate and represent fun and beautiful late night culture with urban street fashion and the imagination that goes with it. I played with striking neon colors against the black night with artistic patterns and distortion. I got my inspiration from music videos and the arthouse scene. When you go out and enjoy the night life, your imagination wanders into a sort of parallel universe as the assignment is described. Experimenting with color and distortion has given me the freedom to describe the feeling of being in such a setting.
