- This duo of objects I chose represents the aesthetic and theme of my living space. The choices of colors having soft and romantic hues and bittersweet dark undertones. The significance of my objects has to do with a vulnerable seeming exterior, that has an aggressive and spiteful interior. This represents my upbringing. How I grew up patronized and put down, made to feel weak. Meanwhile, my rage and self defense grew and grew over the years. The rose chest is access to trust and my vulnerability, while the comb guards this precious area. The comb is a blade, used for self defense by a lot of women including myself. It has saved me from getting assaulted in the streets. I keep these objects in my room, to remind me to be hesitant and aware of my surroundings, including people. To protect myself, inside and out.
- To create these photographs, I used demo B, with my mobile phone, as I currently have no access to a professional camera. I set up my background with Card-stock paper, I sort of created a “cube” because it helped to attract more of the natural light from my window and it covered the gray wall since I did not want it in the frame.
- In Photoshop, I edited the pictures with the magic eraser tool, the dodge tool, spot healing tool, and most other basic editing strategies to brighten and even out the backdrop.
