This project is going to discuss the concept of an infinite abundance of time through shape. I plan on creating a 3D printed sculpture that is spherical. Sphere’s embody a sense of infinity through an infinite number of sides and running on planes that are infinite. Time runs in a similar plane, extending infinitely. Time can be described as moving in a circular or infinite way that is not linear. I want to use the sculpture to depict this form of movement in time not moving on a linear plane, since that is how many are able fathom the concept of time. The piece is meant to be experience through movement. It will interactive with the viewer. It is for no one, rather exposes human’s attachment to time and giving time meaning within our lives.
I plan on experimenting with developing multiple spherical forms that can be pushed and moved in infinite ways by the viewer. The sculpture will have to be assembled within a structure that would allow it to move freely. For the surface area, I plan on developing a series of shapes and other images to create a visual sense of infinity. Images will resemble circular forms, will be layered, and will fully cover the sculpture. These images will be highly saturated in color.
I have selected this idea, since I am drawn to how shape can illustrate a sense of time. I think people’s perception of time is a very small frame. People do not look beyond how time moves within one’s own life.
