Reflection:

  • What did you learn?
    •  Before this class I had never really experimented with weaving, so through this project I was able to learn a new technique.

  • What did you enjoy?
    • I enjoyed learning a new technique for creating textiles and the freedom I had to explore the medium.

  • What was challenging? And how did you overcome these challenges?
    • Time management was a slight challenge for this project because I wanted to create larger more detailed samples that were difficult to create in the time I had. During presentations I like my work to look finished, so the idea of making samples that were not meant to be completely finished products was difficult for me to get used to at first. I was able to overcome this challenge by making textile samples that informed the next sample I would make, each piece was building on the ideas of the last.

  • Based on the feedback, what would you do next? Or what would you change?
    • If I were to create another textile sample I would make it a monochrome all white piece. By only using white yarns I would be making the  texture the singular focus of the sample, so the viewer could understand the variety is patterns and textures inspired by the jellyfish without the distraction of colors.

  • Is there something you wished you would have presented in a different way?
    • I would have liked to have presented all of my textiles in a similar fashion as my last sample; suspended in the air. Sadly I was unable to hang all of my samples from the ceiling, however I would have liked to because having the textiles suspended would emulate the form of a jellyfish.

  • Was there a classmate’s work you particularly appreciated? And why?
    • I really appreciated the work done by a few of my classmates, especially Jane and  Mary. Jane’s collection was gorgeous, cohesive, beautifully crafted, each evoked the essence of her chosen skin. Mary’s samples were beautifully experimental and explored many different aspects of a sycamore tree.
