Wooden hand with “second skin”

Examining the patterns of the skin of the map puffer and of the shark to see the ways in which the physical pieces of the skin fit together for inspiration on the creation of my second skin

Mapping the movement of my hand motion by drawing each step on tracing paper and putting the layers on top of one another.

drawing my pattern inspirations on my head in order to map potential ways in which my second skin can connect and work.

A few of the material tests I did to create the pieces of my tessellations to use in the creation of the second skin.

Wearing my final second skin.

The wooden hand I created out of cross sections of plywood. The wooden hand wearing the second skin.

I am currently a freshman at the Parsons School of Design. I am 20 years old, and was raised in Japan and Singapore.
