I Remember Essay

When I first started to read the passage I remember by Joe Brainard, I thought it was just a list of random sentences that a person quickly wrote. After studying it carefully and understanding it sentence by sentence I noticed a sense of pattern which tied all those’ loose’ sentences together. The lines were so much more than a group of words. The unique elements for his time of life, the historical acts and events that took place, his own character-building steps were all hidden between the lines.

When we had the assignment to create our own ‘I Remember’ essays, I was very excited and curious about what to re-discover from my memory. Line after line my memories of all content started to pour on to the piece of paper in front of me. After putting the pencil to one side, I re-read my ‘list’ of memories and even found some that I have forgotten about.

Time is such a powerful element that it really puts a shade over everything that happens. Sometimes it can be the healing process that we need, but sometimes it can put some valuable components to boxes and hide away..
