Integrative Studio 1: Memory : PROJECT 4: Arch- I Texts

**Transform experiences of self directed research and memory into architectural forms and objects.**

Before getting started with my project idea in my mind, I have visited The New Museum in order to have some inspiration from a very modern and diverse form of Architecture. The exhibition, Pixel Forest by Pipilotti Rist which is held in the museum helped shape some of my ideas into actual projects.

 

I have chosen an African inspired theme for my final porject. I was searching for a more rustic, cultural and a natural touch which all came together in one piece. For my mandala design, I followed the traditional circular pattern but instead of design elements, I have added some imagery. The animals are placed on top of the inner circle in a way that it has a sense of a circular motion.

The three different kinds of symbols that goes around the outer circle are the symblos of  love, change and wisdom. Three very powerful values which shape our lives.

The designs of the traditional african baskets captured my eye. With the help of the red paint, I achieved a more modern version of the traditional design

 

 

I have tried to mimic the traditional basket weaving by making spirals out of thin ropes . The circular pattern from the mandala continued to the actual form with the spirals.

 

 

Last couple of words about this project. I would like to address that once you first start, be open to mistakes and unexpected things happen.

Through out this Integrative Studio and Seminar – Memory, I tried to to plan, control and make sure everything goes perfect. But in fact, nothing in life is perfect so why stress yourself and your art?

Just remember where you came from, how your memory leads you and be aware of your personal values. Your personality style, your character and the social style of your being will tell a lot about you.

After I took the photos, I figured out that it turned out like an interior design set up rather than an art piece. So by quick changes, I gave the piece a new look which satisfies me a lot more than it used to.

 

As for my text element in my project, I chose only to include two main words, wisdom and power of love. Two words that I believe complete each other perfectly.

The light inside the spiral vessel helps the viewer to understand that inspiration comes within. Everything that we are looking for is actually located in our center. Just like a mandala that pulls the viewer to its center.

With the help of love and a touch of wisdom a sweet melody begins to murmur in my art.
