When I started to think about my research topic and area of interest, I figured that I would combine my love of cooking and my passion about art. Rather than just looking on what’s on the plate or the canvas, I wanted to go deeper towards the understanding and the psychology behind the idea of good composition and aesthetically pleasing visuals.
Before I went out to the world to find some sources, I gave a couple of tries myself on putting together a food composition and serving it. I can really say that once you have some key elements such as variety of textures, tones and size variations on a composition your mouth starts to water and right away you get hooked to that visual.

Throughout this week, I have been observing various different aspects of cooking and ways of presenting. I have also been keeping an eye on how people approach to the food and how do they make a choice. Below are a couple of food advertisements of various cafes and places that serve food. The banners and poster that the store has put out on the street are powerful enough to grab peoples attention with their size, colour and orientation prior to the store.

I am slowly getting the idea of how powerful and bold composition, light, colour and textures can be in a food presentation. When all of these key elements gather in a visual, it is easy to impress and catch peoples attention.
