Final Project Systems Map and Repair / Resiliency Story

It is that time of the semester now where our minds are buzzing with ideas and creative designs which hopefully turn into actual products.  As I have mentioned before in my previous posts, I am doing a paper clay necklace for my Sustainable Systems Final project.

We started the semester off with creating a systems map for a material or a object. Now we have progressed into creating our own designs systems map which is actually very exciting!

To carry the ‘buzzing ideas’ theme in my mind, I made the systems map in a honeycomb format to add a bit of humor to the process.

Just like in every design, my designs could also need a repairment through out its life time, which hopefully be over 50 years. Bel0w is an illustrated version of my repairment story. With the recipe I have provided, it is possible to polish off the damaged areas.

I have written a response to the article, ‘Designer Tom Dixon Unveils His ‘Secret’ Project With Ikea’ below.

Tom Dickson’s latest product and design ideas go very parallel with what we have been trying to achieve from the start of this semester. Long Life design, practical solutions and caring for the environment is basically the three fundamental elements of our class. These three elements should be a base for every new design that will be produced from now on especially because we are the generation that has a chance to make a change and positively impact the environment with our designs.

Just like Tom Dickson’s designs have more than one usage, I think in my final project I am following the same route. I set my focus for a versatile and convertible design for my last project.

In his sofa/ chair design it is convertible and re-shapeable which gives it other usage option rather than just having one way to use it.

The way he approaches mass-production as a way of spreading uniqueness, just blows my mind and gives me inspiration for the possible designs that I could turn in to mass produce as well as spread my creativity and artistic character to the world.

I'm an artists in the making. I have thoughts under construction and feelings under protection.
