The first project for seminar class was to come up with a paper structure that would be based around our spirit animal. The form is open- ended from a pop- up book to laser cut paper.
So with all this freedom, I decided to combine a couple of different paper cutting techniques.
Overall, I have used layering, laser cutting and hand cut details. For a first project,I felt like I needed to explore and find out which style suited me and my work.
Before starting the concept planing, I took an online quiz to find out what my spirit animal was. After several detailed questions and responses, the result was a whale. Which worked out perfectly because I wanted to do something around the underwater, sea related topics. Now after knowing my results I can really relate with the animal.
I believe that they are the most elegant and flowy creatures of the sea. Despite their huge appearance, the softness of their heart can be seen through their eyes…

I went with an accordion structure that easily held the individual astatate sheets together and at the right place. Using watercolor, ink to add the craftsmanship touch to the piece which made it a bit dramatic and one of a kind.
