Puppetry Project

Our 3rd project for Studio and Seminar class was focused on puppetry. The main starting point dn inspiration of this project was  bio- mimicry and how movement works in nature, animals etc. While thinking and planning our design, how joints work, the importance of  proportional balance and the interaction of different body parts were a couple key points to consider .

I first started of by sketching the well-known character Etna. I studied the figure and her accessories to make sure the puppet resembled her. To make a puppet of her, I decided to keep her head and body as a one piece and add movement to the legs. I attached her legs with round hooks which let me hold her by her waist and see her legs subtly move.

After I got the main structure and shape of her, I began to sculpt and add details  using Sculpey. When I was satisfied with the result, I began to add color and embellishments. I  3d printed her glasses and added another medium to the project.

And before I knew it, she was done!

I'm an artists in the making. I have thoughts under construction and feelings under protection.
