Birds are a recurring subject in my art, so when I was creating this character I gravitated towards the idea of a bird-esque visual presence for a naturalist type character I wanted to write about.
When sketching my first couple of characters, I didn’t have a full idea of what I wanted to write about. I originally debated wether or not I wanted the character to be wearing clothes to make it more human. 
I eventually settled on the idea of giving the character human features after figuring out more of the characteristics I wanted to give it.
I made some more developed sketches after realizing more of who my character was.
