Pop Up Book WIP

Pop Up

When I was coming up with a concept for this project I knew that I wanted to create something strange and fantasy like. I recently have been interested in snails and their characteristics. I thought it would be funny to create something with an ironic sense of humor yet still true to the snail. I thought about what it would be like to have gigantic snails as a part of everyday life, and how people would navigate around them. So I decided to show what might be a common problem they could pose- eating everyones food.

The story:

A small village stood off of the coast of the dark sea. The inhabitants were peaceful people and kept mostly to their farm work. They all lived together in a grey stone castle, where they cooked up their bounty of vegetables into delicious fragrant soups.  Everyone laughed merrily as the villagers were quite boring and had little to worry about.

While they slept in blissfully in the morning, their bellies still full of stew, some unwelcome guests arrived. Slimy, smelly, boneless guests. They had smelled the soup the night before a couple of miles away and slid their very fastest hoping to get a bite. The snails while slimy, smelly, and boneless were generally very polite. However their fastest pace was so slow that by the time they arrived to the feast everyone was fast asleep and the sun had began to rise.

The snails became starving from running so far. And when snails are hungry they aren’t very bright. They crept into the garden, and the fields around and gobbled up everything in sight! then they receded into their mobile homes and parked for a contented nap, only a few hours later to be awoken by some rude poking and prodding. Creeping out of their houses they turned around to see some very angry, hungry, fat people surrounding them. Quickly the villagers started throwing stones and whatever else they could find around, as they weren’t well equipped to fight. The two snails who woke up later snuck out through the back gate and left their magnificent friend behind to deal with the masses.

Sadly, he did not survive. A mob of chubby children wrangled him down by his antenna, and for dinner, breakfast, lunch, dinner, breakfast and yet another lunch, they all had escargot.
