Process of Final Project

INSPIRATION MOODBOARD

The mood board consists of images and references that are linked to my project. For instance, 2 photographs of Jeff Wall’s work is included, as I will be using his strategy in my photographs as well, which is that the scenes look so raw and spontaneous yet are surprisingly staged. Specifically, I included one of his works “The Room Destroyed” which is one of what one of my photographs will look like, my bed being completely destroyed.

To have an idea of how my scenes/photographs will look, I took low-tech images using my phone and set up the scenes of my intended idea. However, for my final I will be using a professional camera to have a quality photograph, and a studio light, as the light is a very crucial part to the scenes and will be defining the photographs.

This photograph highlights how valuable a bed is to a person, and how it is used as a way of ‘dumping’ all personal belongings but also a place to do all kinds of activities- studying, watching movies, sex, a way of representing one’s whole life. It is not only an object but a place of comfort and isolation, and holds so many memories. The initial purpose of a bed is to sleep, but the dumping of belongings and activities that are done on the bed transform and expand the initial purpose into a place of comfort, and has its own personality.

This photograph is the idea of making the fridge into a closet, putting my clothes in an organised manner, normally not seen in a fridge. Food is normally just placed in a fridge randomly, which is the complete opposite of a closet. However, the placement of clothes in a fridge is strange and confuses the mind.

This photograph is the idea of transforming the bathroom into an office-a workspace. This is inspired by the idea of the use of phones in bathrooms, how people take their time and love the idea of utilising their phones as a source of entertainment and wasting time while using the toilet. Being a common thing, it might be because the bathroom is a safe space and a private area. To replace the idea of phones, I will transform the bathroom into an office, as a person is sitting on the toilet but working on a computer with a desk. This serves the idea of that an office is a public formal area, and the bathroom is the complete opposite, yet the same characteristics apply with a laptop and a phone-they are both technology.

This photograph series is done in my house, switching around activities normally done in each room, giving the space a different definition and purpose. Each activity has been displaced, a way of symbolising a nightmare- how dreams can overlap with reality and the displacement of activities can then become strange and are not correlated with the ordinary reality and social norms.
