Assignment #17:What is Ergonomics Video Reflection

Ergonomics or more commonly known as comfort design, functional design, and systems is the process of designing products, systems and procedures that allow there to be proper function between them and the different people who will be using them. Before this informative video I had now idea that ergonomics existed. However the truth is that it is the connection between us and the brainstorming process of objects that improve our lives daily. This connection is how well our bodies adapt to the technologies and how well we understand it. There have been products around for hundreds of years and every so often we see them upgrade and add a few new features that are supposed to help us and give us a wider verity of solutions. Or sometimes there are just completely new inventions that we need to learn how to use from scratch. Ergonomics surprisingly is all about research. To improve a product and make it more comfortable, useful and understandable to as many people as possible designers must study the function people’s bodies and the regular, most simplest, straightforward instructions (symbols, color, letters, etc.) that are understood by people worldwide.

I found this video very informative and interesting because I never thought to think twice about the designers that work to simplify the functions of our everyday products and resources. In a way I think we under appreciate those who work to give us these shortcuts. Ergonomics is a process of brainstorming, research and modeling that every designer should consider following when creating an interactive product for their audiences/consumers. The more that the consumer understands how to use the product to make it the most efficient for themselves the more likely the designer is to be successful.
