Keyana, Lubaba, Wiaam, and I are researching the “liberal” community. I chose to form this community because it is one of the largest and most important in the United States, and I thought it was appropriate for this project. It is a community that I belong to, and I identify strongly with certain aspects of it. There are vast amounts of conflicts within the liberal community, and any one of them would be pertinent to focus on because these conflicts reflect the current state of American politics. We chose to focus on “gun control” as a conflict within the liberal community. Gun control is now more important than ever with the increased number of mass shootings in the U.S, like the horrific Pittsburgh synagogue shooting that just happened October 27 and left 11 people dead. We thought that presenting relevant information about gun control in a simple poster would be informative and useful for the project. In all, the liberal community has a sizable influence on American politics; we believed it to be a suitable community to focus on for this project because it lends itself to some interesting discussion of conflicts. Also, we found it to be especially relevant since the November 6 elections were right around the corner.
