Drawing/Imaging Perspective Drawing and NYPL Montage

In order to learn about linear perspective, we did a series of architectural drawings that ended with the final, black and white/colorized NYPL montages. We first went around the school and drew quick, one-point perspective sketches of a location of our choice. After completion of this, we did two-point perspective sketches.

We took a trip to the New York Public Library and were asked to choose a space that demonstrated either one-point or two-point perspective and do a line drawing of it. We taped three sheets of paper together, drew on the middle panel and used the other two to draw vanishing points. I chose this space.

Next, we chose an image to use as the basis for the tonal drawing. This is my completed tonal drawing.

Lastly, we chose an image to turn into the final, digital montage. I used the same image that I selected for the tonal drawing. I brought the image into Photoshop and recreated all the shapes digitally. I referenced the actual photo when deciding what color to make each shape, and how to best depict shading. After I finished the grey version…

I created a color version. I liked the way green and magenta looked together; however, it took me a long time to get the right amount of saturation in the green.
