Field Research Poster

While our original poster had a lot of information and an aesthetic that we were really proud of, it also had a lot of issues. In crit, we received awesome feedback that could be applied to improve our poster. The color scheme, background, and visuals were a big hit, so I wanted to make sure those were prominent in the final design. The class was also very impressed by the information gathered from the survey of the elementary school teachers. In the original, the information from that survey was pushed to the right side of the poster, to the left of it was an intimidating section of facts. The facts proved to be a big issue in the design of the poster. There were simply too many words clustered together and it was hard to read. On the final poster, I temporarily removed that facts section, blew up the pie charts, set them to the left, turned the percentages into a bar graph, and enlarged the arts, music, and athletics blurb. The survey then took up most of the space on the poster. The little illustration of the school was well liked, it was cute and playful, a nice design element. However, a lot of that space was not being used for information. I condensed the school to be much smaller and tucked it into the bottom left corner. In a similar brown tone, I made a text box extend from it, that would be the new facts section. Now instead of the school being a Meer design element, it was now integrated with information. To keep those facts in there, that massive, daunting, paragraph was condensed to three small, easy to read sentences. It was hard to decide what to keep and what to cut out, but it needed to be done. Some of the facts were shown in what the teachers had to say, so those were cut to save space and not be repetitive. What was kept was what was not clear in the rest of the poster, but still important. In the end, I am very proud of this poster. I think we gathered good information and found a good way to turn it into an appealing and interesting poster.
