Bridge 1 Critique-Sierra-DAI- 2/8/18

Sierra used a dress to show her interpretation of one of her questions. The dress is a brilliant blue color which makes it vibrant and bold. In addition, there are silver details on top of the blue, adding an element of shine to the piece. It has a geometric pattern throughout, and has a repeated use of line. The dress cuts across the body in the front but not in the back, adding negative space and revealing the inside of the back of the dress, which is the same bold blue color.

I think the use of pattern was very successful in this piece because the repeated lines and geometric shapes made an interesting design that was very aesthetically pleasing. The actual shape of the dress was unique and it acted well with the pattern of the dress, making these two elements work together to make a successful design. The pattern itself adds a textural element that a plain color would not bring to this design. After contextualizing her piece with her statement and four other dresses she created in the same collection, I noticed a pattern that ties it all together, all of her designs use the color silver to make a cohesive collection that all relate to each other.

This piece reminded me of what a celebrity might wear when attending an award show like the Oscars or The Grammys. I think that if the artist watched award shows, past and present, she would gain a sense of inspiration from all the different designs that people ear and get made for them specifically. I see a lot o original and intriguing dresses when watching, so I think this would be a beneficial source of inspiration.
