Met Museum Reflection

Our task was to choose a piece of art from the museum and really look at it. I chose The Tube Train, by Cyril E. Power (1934). On first glance, I automatically noticed the colors and the stylization of the figures. However, when I started to focus on the piece more, it started to give me more of a feeling of charm, nostalgia, or romanticism as well as drama; I enjoyed the character of the piece. When I read the meaning behind the piece — how the figures, all in synchronicity, were shutting themselves off from the world with what they were reading — I found the contrast to modern day interesting.
