Reflection and Moving Ahead/Shift

For my fifth studio project, we were instructed to use “less precious materials” — materials that are commonplace. We had to begin with a written proposal of intent that explores what the experience of shifting over the semester is for ourselves and incorporate movement/shifting as a theme, metaphor, or solution. The focus is on experience, not narrative, connecting aspects from Bridge 4 to Bridge 5 (this can be process, materials, etc.) and should be included in the proposal.

Inspiration Word: Discovery

This semester, I learned a lot in terms of breaking out of my comfort zone. I started out with having a very limited, set mindset and knowledge with materials and project prompts. I was introduced to new materials that I had never worked with before. I quickly realized that not all materials did what I wanted them to. This definitely translated to my experience with Bridge 4. As a group, we learned the extent of the abilities and limitations of the materials we chose by testing different options and ways of using them. Sometimes during the semester, my experimentation and discovery of materials did not necessarily work, but I also learned what did. I was able to apply and build upon my knowledge from one class to another.
