Cooper Hewitt Museum Visit and Response

Visit either the Cooper-Hewitt Museum’s exhibition Access + Ability or the Whitney Museum’s exhibition An Incomplete History of Protest.  Take a selfie!

Select one work from either exhibition to present on Monday in Studio, similar to your presentations on Stephen Shore’s work earlier in the semester.  Bring in at least one image of the work, and write a 150 word response describing why you chose this work, what kind of research would have been done to create it, and why/if it is an “effective” artwork/design object.

I really loved going to this exhibit because I could relate to it. It was so fun being an interactive exhibit and the products were amazing. I enjoyed watching the videos that show the product in action. In high school, I used to work with autistic kids and their way of understanding is so different. This product is not only necessary for the deaf and hard of hearing, but clothing like these actually calm kids down with music and vibrations as well as a sensation similar to hugging (being close to the body). I found this exhibit and specifically this product extremely unique because of the sensors embedded into fabric. When I researched more into this artwork, I found that the shirt is filled with actuators, which are little motors that vibrate in relation to the intensity of the music being played, in real time. It was adapted from radar technology and mapping.
