Week 6 In Class Reading Response

Modernism can also be thought of as a school of thought or philosophy, not only an art form. The movement was born out of the urge to establish a new style because artists wanted to express truth of the object in clarity and in purity of form. They saw the beauty of machinery which was the core inspiration for the new generation. Modernism is seen to be removed from romantic vagueness and decorative motifs with animal inspiration. During this time, artists were no longer concerned with the production of the individual but rather looking toward collective solutions. Due to the rise of machinery, there was much competition and the aim was standardization.
