Week 12 In Class Reading Response

Post modernism first started in studio Alchymia for Mendini and design was “disciplinary, dimensional, and had conceptual indifference” (40). During this, designers used common materials, colors, and created compositions. There was overlap in being a designer, editor, and critic. Design wasn’t all by one person and there was a strategy of redesign. There wasn’t an exact rational order and formal organization, but a reaction that was less rigid, where shapes, types, etc. could work together in design. Venturi, and architect, thought about architecture of the time to be a “messy vitality over obvious unity.”
