Sustainable Systems: Becoming Nonhuman

Location choice

Washington square park

This is where me and my friends usually hangout on the shiny days. I kept seeing people walking with their dogs in the park, but I have not seen anyone bring their cats out. There are also some stray cats wondering around there seeking food and water. So I decided design a specific space for the cats function as a playground and also a feeding station to help them.

I decided to put the cat space right on the large lawn besides the gate, because there are usually many people there, the flow of people can bring more food supplies and care to the cats.

Final Design

I designed a cat climbing tree in a very large scale for more cats to climb one, while also having little a cabin in case any one of them needs to rest a little bit after having fun. The climb trees can blend well with the natural trees so it would not interrupt the natural scene in the park. There are also some hanging toys for the cats to practice fetching. Besides the climbing tree it’s the cat litter sand ground, if the cats wants to pee they can go to the litter ground, and their owners can clean it out easily. I would also like to establish a feeding station for the cats, which are constructed by recycled pipe. People can donate cat food and clean water for the cats to eat and drink, hopefully it can help the stray cats to survive.
