Documenting 3D Objects: “Eggchela”

Eggchela

I was super excited for the first day of Core Studio 3D! Unfortunately, Hurricane Ida had another idea for my first day. Since all of MetroNorth was shut down, I had to call in via Zoom when my classmates all painted self portraits on eggs.

I did my entire egg project from home! Here it is:

I decided to blow out 2 eggs just incase I messed one up or broke one.

I had a really good time painting myself on an egg! I haven’t worked with acrylics in a bit o so i let loose and painted myself!!

I definitely put off photographing my egg because I know how challenging taking photos of 3D objects can be. That being said, it was a bit of a struggle trying to figure out a set up that worked in my space with the lighting that I had. I ended up using another piece of paper which I held above my head to make the lighting better.

Here was my setup:

Once I finally got all my photos, I picked the best and took it into photoshop. I haven’t used photoshop for a few months so I was a bit rusty. I’m not completely happy with how my studio shot came out, however I’m glad to have gained the experience and look forward to trying again!

Context Shot:

For my context shot I wanted to do something completely opposite from what we were trying to achieve with the studio shot. I had the idea to play around with candles and the reflection of the light on glass.I had a fun time setting up this little scene and taking pictures that were completely different from before.

Here was my setup and final shot for the context shot:

For my photoshopped version, I decided to turn to the library of congress to look for photos. I thought it oculd be cool to make some sort of collage with a black and white image because the egg was already grayscale.

This is what I came up with:

I wish the file size could be bigger but the image I worked with was small to begin with. I’m still pretty happy with how it came out!
