Humpty Dumpty (but cooler)

Humpty Dumpty (but cooler)

I was a bit intimidated by this project due to the fact that I was traumatized in Space and Materiality having to fold various 3D shapes out of paper without glue or tape. I quickly thought of doing papier mache instead as a way around having to cut and fold paper. I decided to go for the challenge by working with a character that appears often in my art, Humpty Dumpty.

I assumed that I would be able to find some sort of paper easter egg template online, and I was super stoked to find one! The template, from paper-shape.com, was super confusing, although I figured out how to put it together with printer paper and artist tape so I could easily bend things out of shape and take them apart.

I modified the template that I found online to make it my own and work for Humpty Dumpty! This is the illustrator file of the flat. In the future I hope to embellish this page a bit because it looks a bit boring at the moment.

I walked down the block to my Nonna’s house to use her printer because mine ran out of ink, and then got to work folding Humpty Dumpty! The MVP of this project was certainly my bone folder. I wouldn’t have made it as far as I did without my bone folder.

Finally, I attached all the segments together with glue all on a toothpick! The process was a lot easier the second time around, and I still think I could refold this again to make it a bit neater. I’m still super happy with how this came out being my first customized paper folding model.
