La Befana

La Befana

Because I failed a bit with the motion of my puppet last week, I wanted to create a puppet with a-lot of movement. When we were introduced to papertape as a material I fell in love with it! I love how fast it dries and the strength it achieves when it’s done. In class I started making a head with a witch’s nose. She reminded me of an old Italian Folktale called La Befana. La Befana is a friendly housekeeper witch. On the epiphany the three kings visit her home and tell her they are going to bring gifts to the child of God. When asked she wanted to join them, she states she has too much house work to do. La Befana realizes she shouldve went with the kings to give Jesus a gift, so to this day on the Epiphany, La Befana gives gifts to good children in hopes of finding baby Jesus one day.

I had a blast with this project! I really enjoy papertape and see myself using it a bunch for future projects.
