Pharmaceutical Advertising – Book

Group Project by: Charlotte Miller, Rhoda Wong, and Michelle Lee

Although the world is much more knowledgeable about mental illnesses than it was a couple of decades ago, people still have misunderstandings regarding how serious each illness can be. In this day and age, direct-to-consumers health advertisements for prescription medication create many implications for the world of consumers. The companies who market these products manipulate the public to believe that mental disorders can be whisked away by swallowing a pill, and distributing pseudoscientific “evidence” in the form of generalized symptoms. In reality, these coorperations are hiding their drive for capital. Our book satirizes the rhetorical techniques used in the health advertisements and raises awareness various mental health treatments.
