  • Google has a different terms listed as their earliest one than the wayback machine. The difference is in the whether the data collected is anonymous or not.
  • carrier iq
    • software that is (often) pre-installed on mobile phones that was designed to gather, store and forward diagnostic measurements on their behalf. However it also happens to record every keystroke.
    • On December 1, 2011, AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile confirmed it was on their phones. It was acquired by AT&T on December 31, 2015.

    • Apparently the Commonwealth of Massachusetts has been or is currently seeking civil and criminal legal action against Carrier IQ.
    • Detection and Removal: “Numerous apps have been released that can detect the Carrier IQ. Detecting Carrier IQ normally doesn’t require the device to be rooted. The removal process is more advanced and requires the user to root the device, or unlock the device’s boot loader (applies only on Nexus devices) in order to remove it. Rooting the device may void its warranty, since system files are modified.”
